Locals showcased their talents in the annual RB Idol and inaugural Golden Idol contests, vying for an opportunity to win prizes and an invitation to give encore performances during Rancho Bernardo’s Spirit of the Fourth festivities.

During the RB Idol talent competition for youths, attendees at the June 28 event in the Poway Center for the Performing Arts voted for their favorites. Jackie Foster, a 15-year-old Poway High student, received the first-place prize of $500 for her vocal rendition of “Oh Darlin’.”

The second-place prize of $200 went to 15-year-old Lizzi Trumbore, a Rancho Bernardo High student who sang “Stolen Moments.” In third place was 15-year-old Jessica Jolley, a Rancho Bernardan who attends Classical Academy High School. She received $100 for singing “Pulled” from “The Addams Family” musical.

All three were invited to give their encore performances during the pre-fireworks show evening entertainment at Bernardo Heights Middle School.

On June 30, 15 area seniors presented their talents at the Golden Idol competition held at the Ed Brown Senior Center.

The inaugural contest’s three finalists were singer DeAnna Manley, who won the first-place prize of $125. Capturing the second-place award of $75 was storyteller Norman Nomura, while the $50 third-place prize went to singer Gary Wade.

The trio were invited to perform during the Spirit of the Fourth Community Fair held in Webb Park.
