For Damon Cobb, an obstetrics and gynecology doctor, it’s important as a health care provider to be compassionate and listen to patients.

Dr. Cobb is the newest board-certified specialist at Poway Women’s Care, a private practice focused on obstetrics and gynecology. The medical office is located at 11939 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite #110. The phone number is 858-618-1156.

Cobb joined Poway Women’s Care a few months ago, performing operations and delivering patients’ babies nearby at Pomerado Hospital in Poway. The medical office, which is accepting new patients, is a small practice that also includes OB/GYN specialist Dr. Karen Kohatsu, he said.

As a doctor, Cobb runs the gamut from medicated to non-medicated births, with an emphasis on letting his patients be heard.

“My biggest goal is to honor what a woman wants,” said Cobb, noting he leans toward natural births. “I want to do everything I can to help in that regard.”

He is networked with resources in the San Diego birthing community, and is open to working with doulas, midwives and other health care facilitators to help patients with their wishes.

The most important thing, he said, is to remember that a woman’s body is very powerful.

“When it comes to birth, it’s very transformative and empowering in a woman’s life, and I want to appreciate that,” he said.

In addition to taking care of new mothers, Cobb treats other female health issues and concerns, especially irregular periods, a condition he said Poway Women’s Care specializes in. As a gynecologist, Cobb said he is interested in minimally invasive procedures so patients can return to their daily activities quickly.

His interest in women’s health was borne from watching his father, a gynecologist.

“I had the opportunity to see how compassionate he was, the bond and the relationship he would develop with his patients, and that always drew me toward OB/GYN,” said Cobb. “Having the opportunity to train and develop those relationships myself is a very rewarding experience.”

The obstetrics and gynecology field covers many specialties, as gynecologists take care of patients from their early lives to delivering their children and into their later years through menopause, and Cobb said he enjoys helping women through all their health issues and building that lifelong doctor-patient relationship.

“You get to develop that relationship through the span of someone’s life,” Cobb said.

Cobb was educated and trained in Missouri, graduating from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completing his residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. He has been an obstetrics and gynecology specialist for four years after finishing his residency. He practiced in Indiana prior to moving to San Diego County a year and a half ago.

Cobb is a Carmel Valley resident, where he lives with his wife, Jennifer, and two sons.
