UPDATE: The rear passenger initially identified as Haylie Means was later determined to be Reneya Taylor, 19, according to a May 25 press release issued by San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Taylor originally told deputies her name was Means in an attempt to conceal her real identification. It was discovered that Taylor had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She was booked on the warrant and giving false information to a peace officer along with the original charge of possession of stolen property.

POWAY (CNS) - Two probationers and a woman were taken into custody early Tuesday following a brief car chase in Poway that ended when the suspects’ vehicle slammed into a brick wall, authorities said.

A patrol deputy began pursuing the trio in the 12800 block of Poway Road about 12:20 a.m. after attempting a traffic stop for an equipment violation, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Matzkiw. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Samuel Gillespie, refused to stop and instead led the patrolman through a parking lot before returning to westbound Poway Road, eventually turning northbound onto Pomerado Road, the sergeant said in a statement. The pursuit reached speeds up to 85 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone, he said.

Gillespie slowed down to make an eastbound turn onto Holland Road but was still going too fast and crashed into a brick wall on the northeast corner of Pomerado and Holland roads, Matzkiw said, noting the pursuit lasted 1.3 miles.

Gillespie was taken into custody, along with two passengers in his vehicle, Matzkiw said. The passengers were identified as Milton Rodgers, 20, and Reneya Taylor, 19.

Gillespie, who is currently on probation, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading.

Rodgers, who was checked out at a hospital for leg pain but not admitted, was arrested on suspicion of numerous weapons-related charges. Rodgers is a convicted felon and currently on probation. Matzkiw said a loaded sawed-off shotgun found in the suspect vehicle belonged to Rodgers.

Taylor was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, Matzkiw said without elaboration.
