POWAY (CNS) - Five young men were in custody Thursday on suspicion of burglarizing at least one home in Poway.

A woman who lives in the 12800 block of Shady Oak Court called 911 to report suspicious activity in her neighborhood about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Miller.

She told a dispatcher that a man was knocking on her back window and she had just seen another man carrying a television out of her neighbor’s house, the lieutenant said in a statement.

She also said the TV-lugging man and the one who knocked on her window fled in the same car. A short time later, a patrolling deputy who had a description of the car and its license plate number spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Scripps Poway Parkway, Miller said.

A brief pursuit, ending when the suspect vehicle crashed on Scripps Poway Parkway and Cypress Canyon Road. According to Miller, the two suspects in the car bailed on foot but were later found and arrested.

Sheriff’s deputies and San Diego police, California Highway Patrol and San Diego Unified School District police officers searched the area and found one of the suspects hiding in the neighborhood and the other in a nearby canyon, Miller said.

During the search, deputies investigating the break-in on Shady Oak Court learned a second suspect vehicle had fled the scene with three men inside. After finding the car abandoned, deputies fanned out across Poway and found three men matching the descriptions of the suspects at a bagel shop at Poway and Oak Knoll roads, Miller said.

The three suspects ran from deputies. Two were arrested following brief foot chases, while the third was arrested a short time later in a nearby canyon, Miller said.

The five burglary suspects were identified as Sonny Jones, 19; Marcus Bishop, 21; Jamel Holiday, 19; Don Jones, 18; and Rashad Clark, 22. They each face residential burglary and other charges, Miller said.
