Judge cuts bails of ex-Pomerado Hospital worker accused of making threats

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A judge today halved bail to $500,000 for a fired Pomerado Hospital employee accused of threatening to kill former co-workers.

Jelaan Ayinde Miles, 26, was charged Tuesday with nine felony counts of making criminal threats.

Detectives raided a home in the 2500 block of Fenton Parkway on April 18, seizing computers and firearms and arresting Miles.

At the defendant’s arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Adam Gordon told Judge David Szumowski that Miles, who was fired in December 2011, posted threatening messages online three times, threatening to go on a killing spree at the hospital.

During their search, investigators found videos they say Miles made, in which he shows off his mother’s gun and a sword, according to the prosecutor.

Today, Deputy Public Defender Salvatore Tarantino argued that Miles’ bail should be reduced from $1 million because a declaration in which an officer asked for a bail increase was not in the court file.

Judge Lorna Alksne agreed to cut Miles’ bail in half, but ordered him to stay away from all Palomar Health facilities, including Pomerado and Palomar hospitals.

The defendant -- who worked at Pomerado Hospital as an environmental service worker, which includes housekeeping -- was previously ordered to stay away from five named employees at Pomerado Hospital.

He will be back in court May 6 for a preliminary hearing.
