Prep Boys Track and Field: Poway High’s 4x400-relay team runs section’s top time at Escondido Invitational

The Poway High 4x400-meter relay team posted a season-best time of 3-minutes, 21.02-seconds to take first place at the Escondido Invitational Friday night at Escondido High School.

The team (Chris French, Derek Babiash, Jessen Lentz and Sam Ozenbaugh) is tops in the San Diego Section with that mark. Nearly a full second behind the Titans was Steele Canyon, coming in at 3:21.90.

The Titans’ 4x100-relay team also took first place, finishing in 42.27. It wasn’t the top time of the season for Poway, but good enough to edge second-place finisher Steele Canyon on Friday night.

The 4x100 team (Chris French, Lance Mudd, Nehemiah Gross and Brandon Lucas) are ranked No. 1 in the section, having already ran 42.14. The Titans will likely need to get under 42 to have a shot at making the finals at the state meet.
