Political comedy coming to Poway

Looking for a laugh, but can’t bear to tear yourself away from the latest political development?

The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, as part its Winter 2013 lineup, presents political comedy with The Capitol Steps, performing for one night only 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road.

This group of satirical comedians, who began back in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers for Senator Charles Percy, creates song parodies and skits based on recent headlines. Neither political party is safe from their humor.

The Capitol Steps have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest, “Take the Money and Run for President,” released in 2012, described on their website as “featuring all the former Republican hopefuls — plus one Democrat who finally got to keep his job.”

Tickets for the show are $35 for adults, $30 seniors, $10 for youth 18 and under. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 858-748-0505, visiting in person (box office hours are noon - 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday), or online at powayarts.org.
