Looking for someone to help care for an elderly relative, or do you need a little assistance after surgery?

Assisting Hands in Rancho Bernardo is here to help. Part of a franchise of 45 businesses around the country, Assisting Hands is a non-medical home health care company. The home care workers at Assisting Hands, many of whom have years of experience and health care credentials, wear many hats, from housekeeper, to personal assistant, to advocate, and even to companion.

Located at 16870 West Bernardo Drive, Suite 400, Assisting Hands Rancho Bernardo serves San Diego North County Inland, including Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Rancho Penasquitos, Mira Mesa, Escondido and San Marcos.

The Rancho Bernardo franchise location was purchased by owner Nina Haines a little over a year ago. Haines, who spent 15 years as a financial controller in the health care field, said she was interested in the business because she likes working with seniors and helping people. “We give them the upmost care and attention 24-7,” said Haines of her clients.

The care workers employed by Assisting Hands work anywhere from a single hour a day for clients, to providing 24-hour care and attention, doing everything from cleaning, making appointments and taking clients shopping, to acting as a liaison between the client and their physician and family, as well as providing medication management. “We make the client comfortable living in their own home, and help them maintain their independence,” said Haines.

Assisting Hands also offers a medical alert service, and are all on call 24 hours a day — even Haines and her in-office staff. “Everyone has our personal cell phone numbers,” said director of administration Kristina Gibbons.

The case manager will also coordinate appointments for the client, especially if their family lives out of town and is unable to handle the day-to-day basics. They work to keep contact with family and keep them informed of the client’s well-being.

All of the caregivers employed by Assisting Hands are given thorough background checks, including criminal checks, and are trained through Assisting Hands’ training program. Staffing manager Jane Northam works to match up clients with precisely the caregiver that best fits their needs and wishes, and supervisory visits are performed to check on the caregiver and their client.
