Prep Boys Soccer: Poway High settles for No. 5 seed; Del Norte to host and play in first playoff game

Despite capturing the outright Palomar League title for the first time since 2011, the Poway High boys soccer team will play an opening-round game in the CIF San Diego Section Division I playoffs.

The Titans were tabbed the No. 5 seed, just missing out on the first-round bye that goes to the top-four seeds. Poway will host No. 12 Calexico Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the winner moving on to play at No. 4 Escondido Saturday at 5 p.m.

Del Norte will host and play in its first playoff soccer match in its short history. The Nighthawks, like the football team last year, is the No. 8 seed and will face No. 9 Mission Bay at home Wednesday in the Division III playoffs. The winner will play at No. 1 University City Saturday at 5 p.m.

Maranatha Christian is the No. 5 seed in the Division V playoffs and will host No. 12 Liberty Charter in a first-round game Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. The winner will play at No. 4 San Diego Jewish Academy Saturday at 5 p.m.
