A deputy from the Poway Sheriff’s Station was treated for minor injuries Monday after he was allegedly assaulted by a man who was the subject of a welfare check.

The incident occurred shortly after noon when deputies responded to a call from a worker at a business on the 13600 block of Poway Road reporting a male co-worker was acting irrationally and claiming to have been drugged. According to sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Brunk, when deputies arrived to check on his welfare, the man became agitated and began to assault one of the deputies. Several more deputies arrived on the scene and ultimately took the man into custody.

The deputy and suspect were transported to the hospital by paramedics for treatment.

The suspect is being charged with assaulting a deputy.
