Watch out for the pork

Taxpayers beware of the omnibus legislation immigration bill, be you a Democrat or Republican. The current immigration bill contains about 1,200 pages. Why? Because it can be loaded with pork, pork and more pork.

The House wanted to break out each part of the bill separately. The bill lost in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Regardless of party, each party put in pork, like studies for the sex life of ants or why grasshoppers hop or something similarly stupid. Why? Pork.

We need immigration reform. But do we need to waste taxpayer money on insignificant pork items for Congress’ pet projects in their districts?

If you like the government we are getting, don’t call you legislator. If you don’t like the government we are getting, let you legislator know your thoughts.

Do nothing and we deserve the government we are getting.

Remember, Obamacare has as many as 1,200 to 2,000 pages loaded with pork. There are also 5,000 pages of amendments or exceptions loaded with pork hidden in the bill. Why? Because it is an “omnibus bill.”

Remember, the president said you could keep your current doctor. But he did not say how much it would cost you to keep your current doctor.

Nice job on fireworks

Fabulous July 4 Rancho Bernardo fireworks show! Thank you to the committee in charge of the wonderful, fast paced, and unique fireworks show. What a display!

We have been attending for several years (have lived in RB since 1973), and this was the best yet. Loved every minute of the designs, colors, and patriotic music. A job well done.

Next time, check the P.A. system

My wife and I just returned from the “Spirit of the Fourth” parade in Rancho Bernardo. How disappointed we were, not by the parade but the lack of the public address system.

We set up next to the parade P.A. booth at 9:30 a.m. because we did not want to miss a thing. At 3:40 p.m. the parade started and the P.A. system did not work. Several people seemed to be lost on how to approach the problem to fix it. A big thumbs down.

May I suggest two things before next year’s parade? First, check the system several days in advance of the parade and also have a back-up system if problems occur as they did this year.

Second, do not have traffic passing on the street on the opposite side of the parade route. People were running back and fourth between traffic sitting on the median areas. Another unsafe spot to sit.

We enjoyed the parade but not as much as we would have had the P.A. system worked.

Some All-Stars missing

Thumbs down to the 4S Ranch Little League for allowing four Juniors players to play All-Stars this season despite the fact they had vacation plans.

These four players missed half or all of the 2013 All-Star season. These same players took spots away from four other players who were well qualified to be an All-Star and who would have been available for the entire All-Star season.
