A driver killed in a crash in Poway has been identified as David Doiron, 43, of Lakeside, authorities said. Dorion was the sole occupant of the pickup truck in the June 12 single-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, Doiron was not wearing a seat belt and may have been sending or receiving text messages at the time of the collision.

pom-logo-fbA witness observed a Ford F-150 pickup truck driving fast and erratically on Espola Road when it suddenly veered off the right side of the road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Cheever of the Poway Traffic Division. The pickup crashed south of Lake Poway Road and north of Trailwind Road. It was estimated the pickup was traveling approximately 60 mph when it hit the curb prior to the collision, Cheever said. The pickup ran off the road and struck two trees, coming to a rest on the passenger side.

Doiron was trapped in the truck unconscious and still breathing. Fire department personnel administered first aid and were in the process of extracting Doiron from the pickup when he stopped breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toxicology tests for drugs and/or alcohol are still pending.
