Poway Woman’s Club exhibit celebrates local women in art

The Poway Woman’s Club is showcasing art by women in their 23rd annual Celebrate Women Art Exhibit, on display now through Tuesday, March 26 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

The art works on display include watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, colored pencil, photography, mixed media, charcoal, tapestry, pen and ink, scratchboard, monoprint, graphite and collage.

The exhibit was judged by Heidi Hensey, drawing, painting and ceramics teacher at Poway High School. Judging was based on craftsmanship, attention to detail, strength of composition, content, creativity and originality.

Winning Best in Show was Kathy Aldrich, with her oil painting “The Allure of a Red Dress.”

Other winners include Marilyn Link, for her watercolor and ink artwork “Remembering Good Days,” Patricia Titus for her oil painting “Plein Air” and her acrylic works “Facade” and “Cracked & Exposed,” Suzanne Nicolaisen for her mixed composition “African Maternal Instincts,” Lori Chase for her mixed composition “Mother,” Catherine Barr for her colored pencil artwork “Tattoo” and her oil pastel “Step Right Up,” Nan Benson-Schlax for her graphite work “Wildfire Refugee,” Dee Durbin for her watercolor “Nap on a London Park Bench,” Haydee Candelario for her pen and ink work “Snow Splendor,” Ahna Street for her pastel “Golden Vista,” Doreen Long for her photograph “Encinitas,” Chung Ferng for her charcoal “Happiness,” Beverly Kent for her tapestry “Through the Arch II,” Jennifer Hubka for her photo collage “Baby Raccoon - Lost and Found,” Naomi Lesberg for her scratchboard “Many Meerkats,” and Vita Sorrentino for her monoprint “Windy Day.”

Viewing the exhibit is free, and available 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday - Friday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday at 15498 Espola Road.
