Three drivers were arrested during a Friday night/Saturday morning DUI checkpoint in Poway, according to Deputy Aaron Meleen of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies from the Poway Sheriff’s Station set up the checkpoint from 7 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound lanes of 12100 Poway Road.

Of the three arrests, one was for suspicion of DUI, one for driving while in possession of marijuana and one for driving while in possession of a controlled substance, said Meleen.

In addition, Meleen said 12 citations were issued for driving without a valid driver’s license and three for driving on a suspended license. Nine vehicles were towed.

A total of 2,361 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, Meleen said. Of those, 1,822 were screened in the primary screening area, and 32 sent to secondary screening so the drivers could have their license status checked.
