Miss Rancho Bernardo Teen hopefuls enter March 30 pageant

Fourteen high school sophomores and juniors are vying for the title of Miss Rancho Bernardo Teen 2014.

The Teen titleholder and Miss Rancho Bernardo 2014 will serve as community ambassadors throughout their year-long reigns. Their prizes include a $1,000 scholarship so they can further their educations.

The annual scholarship pageants will be held together at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 30 in the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Those who would like to attend can only buy the $8 tickets in advance by contacting Pageant Director Lynn Ross at lross@san.rr.com or call 858-705-4920 in the evening prior to 9 p.m.

Profiles of the Miss Rancho Bernardo 2014 contestants will be printed in the March 28 issue.

This year’s Miss Rancho Bernardo Teen contestants are:

• Maya Allunario, a 15-year-old Del Norte High sophomore and daughter of John Allunario and Binh Allunario. Her activities have included participating in the Generation Church San Diego youth group and pursuing interests such as fashion, modeling and music.

• Nina Alvarez, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Sergio Alvarez. Her activities have included volleyball, WIT Kids, Spanish Club, GCSD Club, community service and volunteering at the Westwood Club.

• Kristin Chandler, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Ray and Valerie Chandler. Her activities have included cheerleading, Best Buddies, Link Crew, Food For Thought, dance team, school musical and student government.

• Elena Crespo, a 15-year-old Del Norte High sophomore and daughter of Julie Purdy and Ivan Crespo. Her activities have included cheerleading, playing cello and piano, Civic Youth Orchestra, Girl Scouts, singing, Global Arms of Advocacy, Nordstrom Fashion Board, Let Children Learn and Broadway Theatre Arts Academy.

• Laurenne Croft, a 16-year-old Del Norte High junior and daughter of Bryan and Kimberly Croft. Her activities have included diving, water polo, acting, dancing, Eco Future Club, First Robotics competitions, Girl Scouts, playing piano, volunteering at the San Diego Zoo and being a camp counselor at Mission Bay Sports Center.

• Sadaf Dadafshar, a 15-year-old Rancho Bernardo High sophomore and daughter of Rashin Dadafshar and Majid Dadafshar. Her activities have included writing poetry, RBHS Make-A-Wish Club, field hockey, volunteering, playing piano and horseback riding.

• Hannah El Sabrout, a 15-year-old Rancho Bernardo High sophomore and daughter of Howaida El Said and Timothy Hinde. Her activities have included dance team, gymnastics, Key Club, LEO Club, Academic League, Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Global News Network Club, California Scholarship Federation and volunteering with the American Heart and Stroke Association.

• Hannah Jaeger, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Jennifer and Scott Jaeger. Her activities have included swimming, softball, cheerleading, Link Crew, theater plus volunteering at church and the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

• Bhavika Kapadia, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Kirit and Rupal Kapadia. Her activities have included speech and debate team and Agape Missions Club plus interests such as music and song writing.

• Emily Martin, a 15-year-old Rancho Bernardo High sophomore and daughter of Kevin Martin and Nicole Martin. Her activities have included DECA, lacrosse, field hockey, volunteering and church-affiliated National Leadership Council and DiscoveryBound.

• Amanda Muna, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Edward and Kelly Muna. Her activities have included National Charity League, running half marathons, track and field, Link Crew and peer counseling.

• Madison Parker, a 16-year-old Del Norte High sophomore and daughter of Rick and Maren Parker. Her activities have included track and field, school drama productions, Del Norte News and camping.

• Michelle Tenggara, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High sophomore and daughter of Yuki Teng and Melissa Chen. Her activities have included cheerleading, diving, student government, Science Olympiad, volunteering at Maranatha Chapel and a summer internship at Palomar Health.

• Holly VonDohlen, a 16-year-old Rancho Bernardo High junior and daughter of Sherry and Eric VonDohlen. Her activities have included dance team and peer counseling, plus pursuing interests such as baking, hiking, running and yoga.
