Rancho Bernardo High baseball player Kyle Dean has decommitted from the University of San Diego.

Dean, who is one of the top-rated corner outfielders in the state and has been projected to be a first-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft by some, gave his verbal commitment to USD two years ago as a sophomore.

“I thought it was the best place for me two years ago, but things have changed and I am very sad about what happened,” Dean said on Monday. “But I am looking forward to the future and I am very confident in my abilities and confident in what the future holds.”

Dean does not have any other scholarship offers at the moment, but that will likely change once the news of his availability spreads. He said he does not have a timetable in mind when it comes to committing to a new school.

“I don’t have a timetable,” said Dean, who hit .355 with five home runs and 25 RBIs as a junior at Poway High last season. “I can’t control when and if people do decide to promote interest in me.”

Dean spent the summer playing in all of the biggest high school showcases, including the Perfect Game All-American Classic, the Area Code Games and the Under Armour All-American Game.
