Del Norte High students are stepping back in time this week as they “Rewind the Clock,” the theme of their homecoming festivities.

The community is welcome to join the Nighthawks in their celebratory activities this Friday. Shortly before noon students will participate in the annual parade. ASB Adviser Jennifer Mitchell said locals can line up on any of the streets surrounding the school to see the band, class floats and other entrants go by. The parade route will go along Deer Ridge Road, Camino San Bernardo, Nighthawk Lane, Zaslavsky Place and Lone Quail Road.

Students have been busy building their floats, each assigned a different decade. The freshmen float is to reflect the 1970s, while sophomores will focus on the 1960s, juniors on the 1950s and seniors the 1980s. Students were also encouraged to wear clothes reflecting their class’ assigned decade on Thursday. As for their attire on other days of spirit week, they were encouraged to wear American attire on Monday, followed by country club on Tuesday, western on Wednesday and their school colors of blue and green on Friday.

On Friday evening, the homecoming celebration will continue with the junior varsity and varsity football games. During the varsity game’s half-time program, the homecoming court will be introduced and the king and queen will be crowned.

The seniors up for king are Murray Andrews, Vaibhav Jayaraman and Parker Lappin. Those nominated for queen are Dominique Diller, Catherine Gallanagh and Morgan Moody. Joining them on the court are freshmen Amanda Collins and Tyler Papineau, sophomores Anita Clifford and John Deney, and juniors Kensie Soule and Daniel Niquette.

Del Norte will be face Vista in the football game. The junior varsity game will start at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and free for those 5 years and younger. Del Norte’s stadium is at 16601 Nighthawk Lane in 4S Ranch.

The Nighthawks will conclude their homecoming festivities with a dance on Saturday night in their school gym.
