Prep Softball: Titans fall in Carew Classic title game

Share

The Poway High softball team played right with the top-ranked team in the nation for six innings. But Mission Viejo found a way to pull away in the final frame.

Taylor McQuillin quieted the Titans’ potent lineup and the Diablos scored four runs in the seventh en route to a 5-1 victory over Poway Saturday night in the championship game of the prestigious Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim.

McQuillin struck out 14 and the Diablos registered four straight hits in the seventh inning, turning a nail-biting 1-1 contest into a four-run win. The second-place finish for the Titans is the best the program has ever done in the Carew Classic.

The Diablos move to 16-0 with the win.
