The Poway High baseball team will have a chance to earn a sweep at Petco Park on Friday night and finish off the opening week of Palomar League play in first place.

Sophomore Alex Blaszyk tossed a two-hitter and freshman Dayton Dooney drove in two runs, as the host Titans beat Mt. Carmel for the second time with Thursday’s 4-1 Palomar League victory.

The series finale will take place at Petco Park Friday at 7 p.m. Poway (9-7, 2-0) has a chance to start league play with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2013, when it beat the Sundevils three straight to open league.

The Titans, which have won four in a row, got two hits from both Noah Lyons and Jeff Pellegrino. Dooney went 1-for-3 with the two RBIs, while Filip Banjac and Kevin Bristow also drove in runs for Poway.

Blaszyk went the distance, striking out five and allowing just the one run. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-hander has been dominant in his last three starts, going 3-0 and giving up just three earned runs over 19 innings of work in the span.
