Preps: Broncos’ Dean signs with BYU; Titans’ McClendon signs with Briar Cliff University

Rancho Bernardo High baseball player Kyle Dean, a former University of San Diego commit, confirmed that he has signed with BYU.

Dean, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder, was forced to sit out the first 30 days of the high school season due to transfer rules. He played his first three years at Poway before going to Rancho Bernardo for his senior season.

Dean has only 11 plate appearances and is hitting .286 with a pair of doubles. The Under-Armour All-American is expected to be selected in the 2015 MLB Draft in June.

Girls volleyball

Poway High senior Aubrie McClendon has signed with Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa to play volleyball.

The 5-foot-6 defensive specialist had 184 digs in her senior season and earned the “Coaches Award.” During her junior year, she helped the Titans reach the San Diego Section Division I championship match.

McClendon has played for Epic Volleyball Club for six years. Outside of volleyball, she is involved in mission trips with Homeless Outreach, Emmanuel Orphanage in Tijuana, Belize mission trips and others through her church.
