MLB: Rancho Bernardo grad Dykstra throws no-hitter

Share

Former Rancho Bernardo High and Cal State San Marcos pitcher James Dykstra threw a no-hitter Wednesday for the Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League in a 1-0 victory.

Dykstra, who was a sixth-round pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2013, allowed just one walk over seven innings in his gem, which was the first game of a doubleheader against the Potomac Nationals.

He faced the minimum 21 batters after picking the batter he walked off first.

Dykstra threw just 71 pitches and the Dash didn’t record an outfield putout.

In addition to picking off a runner, he struckout three, there were 14 groundouts, two infield pop ups and a liner to the third baseman.

Dykstra is now 2-0 on the season.

His older brother, Allan, played at Rancho Bernardo, Wake Forest and was a first-round pick of the Padres.

A first baseman, he made his major league debut last week for the Tampa Bay Rays.
