The four-time defending Palomar League champions are on the ropes.

Rancho Bernardo dropped its first league series since losing two of three to Poway in 2012, falling 5-4 in eight innings to Torrey Pines on Saturday in the rubber game. The Broncos, which made two errors in the game, went undefeated in league play last year.

Things do not get any easier for Rancho Bernardo, as they open a three-game set against first-place Westview (14-4, 3-0) Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Rancho Bernardo. Poway went 3-0 against Mt. Carmel and is in a first-place tie with the Wolverines.

The Broncos gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Falcons (11-6-1, 2-1) the series victory. Rancho Bernardo (12-5, 1-2) led 4-2 through five innings, but Torrey Pines scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie it.

Alika Williams went 3-for-4, while Kyle Dean and Jacob Gorman added two hits apiece for the Broncos.
