Poway checkpoint nets two suspected drunk drivers

Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated during a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department checkpoint conducted Friday night and early Saturday in Poway.

The checkpoint, on eastbound Poway Road near Oak Knoll Road, also resulted in two drivers being cited for suspended licenses and nine others being cited for being unlicensed, according to a post-event press release.

A total of 1,251 vehicles passed through the checkpoint between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday. Twenty-seven of those were sent to a secondary screening area, according to the press release. Five drivers were evaluated for possibly being under the influence.
