Rancho Bernardo High’s Mr. Bronco pageant attracts 13 hopefuls

The 13 Mr. Bronco hopefuls will entertain the audience and judges on Thursday as they vie for the title and accompanying $500 scholarship.

The annual pageant for senior boys at Rancho Bernardo High will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in the Rancho Bernardo High School Performing Arts Center, 13010 Paseo Lucido. Tickets are $5 at the door. All are welcome to attend.

After the contestants begin the pageant by performing a group dance, they will be individually introduced as they are escorted on stage by someone important in their lives, such as a parent or sibling. A panel of judges will award them points as they model formal wear and swim suits, perform a talent and answer an impromptu interview question.

Besides awarding the $500 scholarship and trophy to the winner, additional trophies will be presented to the contestant with the best talent, selected as Mr. Congeniality and the audience’s choice. The pageant is organized by the RB High ASB.

This year’s Mr. Bronco contestants are:

• Chris Amaro, who will perform a drum solo as his talent. His post-graduation plan is to attend California State University Long Beach so he can major in percussion performance and conducting.

• Matthew Gamberale, who will show a short film that he acted in and produced. His post-graduation plan is to attend Point Loma Nazarene University and study kinesiology.

• Jonas Guarin, who will play the guitar during the talent competition. His post-graduation plan is to attend Miramar Community College so he can study culinary arts.

• Dylan Loquist, who acted in the film produced by fellow contestant Matthew Gamberale. Loquist’s post-graduation plan is to attend California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and study kinesiology.

• Max Noman, whose will play the cymbals for his talent. His post-graduation plan is to attend Mesa Community College, then transfer to San Diego State University where he will major in international business.

• Andrew Parker, whose talent will be competing in a lip sync battle with fellow contestant Jonathon Soliz. Parker’s post-graduation plan is to attend San Diego State University so he can major in business and marketing.

• Tamer Qafiti, who will perform a magic act for the talent competition. His post-graduation plan is to attend the University of California Irvine to study chemistry.

• Tucker Reed, who will perform the “Napoleon Dynamite” dance as his talent. His post-graduation plan is to attend California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo where he will be in the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps and play lacrosse.

• Kennith Rowlands, whose talent will be making BLT sandwiches, which he will serve to the judges. His post-graduation plan is to attend Palomar Community College so he can study genetics.

• Jake Schraeder, who will perform a monologue during the talent competition. His post-graduation plan is to attend Mira Mesa Community College, then transfer to San Diego State University where he will major in communications.

• Jonathon Soliz, whose talent will be competing in a lip sync battle with fellow contestant Andrew Parker. Soliz’s post-graduation plan is to attend Palomar Community College then transfer to the University of California Los Angeles so he can major in business.

• Paul Tael, who will sing during the talent competition. His post-graduation plan is to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

• Tyler Thompson, whose talent will be singing a love song. His post-graduation plan is to attend Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology so he can study nondestructive testing.
