Haggen to replace local Albertsons in May

Share

Haggen, the Pacific Northwest grocery chain that acquired 146 Albertsons and Safeway stores on the West Coast in February, announced the official ownership and conversion dates for the three Albertsons located in Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Penasquitos.

The Albertsons on 14837 Pomerado Road in Poway will be converted to Haggen on May 8 and will reopen on May 9.

The Albertsons at 12475 Rancho Bernardo Road in Rancho Bernardo will be converted on May 13 and reopen May 14.

The Albertsons on 14340 Penasquitos Drive will be converted on May 18 and reopen on May 19.

All three stores will close at 6 p.m. the day before they convert from Albertsons to Haggen Food & Pharmacy (the pharmacy will remain open during the conversions). Shoppers can expect new signs inside and outside of all the stores.

Haggen, which went from 18 stores with 16 pharmacies throughout two states (Oregon and Washington) to 164 stores with 106 pharmacies across five states (California, Nevada and Arizona), is committed to local sourcing.

“Haggen has built its 81-year-old business on providing excellent, locally sourced, fresh produce and high quality meats and seafood,” said Bill Shaner, CEO of Haggen Pacific Southwest. “That focus will definitely be reflected in the new stores.”

A total of 25 Albertsons across San Diego County were purchased in February. The sale was required by the Federal Trade Commission as part of the Albertsons-Safeway merger.
