Prep Girls Golf: Titans win season opener

The Poway High girls golf team lost four of its top five scorers from a season ago. But that didn’t keep the Titans from winning their season opener.

Junior Grace Fitzgerald, the top returning scorer, shot an even-par 36 to help Poway defeat Coronado 236-262 Wednesday in the non-league season opener for both schools. Fitzgerald capped her day by playing holes No. 7-9 at the par-36 Stoneridge Country Club in just nine shots.

Rounding out the top three for the Titans were Julia Mears (45), Belinda Nicholas (49) and Jenifer Morris (52).
