Rancho Buena Vista High’s huge offensive line of Corban Taumaoe, Armand Beckham, Pablo Quez, Weston Kane and Nathan Bates had its way in the trenches Friday night.

But Poway came up with enough big plays to win the teams’ season opener 21-6 at Longhorn Stadium.

The Titans jumped out to a two-touchdown halftime lead on a night RBV rushed for 254 yards, 78 of them by Dominic Taylor on 15 carries in the first two quarters.

But Jared Adelman hurt the Longhorns’ chances on his second TD run, from 1 yard out with 2:41 left in the game, after RBV had closed the gap to 14-6.

Quarterback Robbie Sullivan threw a 33-yard pass to Chris Butler to put the ball on the 1.

Poway utilized a bevy of big plays in taking a 14-0 halftime lead. Jared Adelman put the Titans in front with a 65-yard touchdown run with 3:26 to play in the first quarter, after the Longhorns had taken the opening kickoff and kept the ball for the game’s first 7:18.

Jacob Gaines’ interception gave Poway possession for the first time and preceded Adelman’s run.

Gaines’ 62-yard touchdown run made it 14-0 with 3:35 remaining in the half.

Adelman and Leo Ronces also had first-half interceptions for the Titans. Noah Sevier recovered a fumble.

Isaiah Dyer-McClain got the Longhorns on the board with a 1-yard run to cap a drive that saw him carry for 47 yards.
