Prep Football: Centurions rally past Nighthawks in season opener

Patrick Coleman will have to wait at least one more week for his first victory as the Del Norte High football coach.

University City scored 27 unanswered points, holding the Nighthawks scoreless in the second half of Friday night’s 34-14 non-league victory in the season opener for both schools.

Del Norte took a 14-7 lead on the Centurions after Jake Moore hit Marco Young for a 10-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. But University City answered with 27 straight points, 21 of those in the second quarter, spoiling the night for the home crowd.

Coleman is in his first season as coach of the Nighthawks. He took over for Leigh Cole, who stepped down after five seasons last year. The task to get Coleman his first win doesn’t get any easier with rival Rancho Bernardo up next.
