Signing Day: Rancho Bernardo High’s Range picks San Diego State

Share

Rancho Bernardo High running back Tyree Range will continue his career close to home, choosing to bring his rare combination of speed and power to San Diego State next season.

The 6-foot, 228-pound back, who tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus during a game against Mt. Carmel on Oct. 24, 2014, said he “won’t know for a couple months,” if he will be a preferred walk-on or get a scholarship.

Range had surgery on Jan. 1 and hopes to return to football activities in August or September. He was unstoppable on the field for the Broncos this past season, rushing for 1,140 yards and 18 TDs in just eight games.

Range was getting interest from Arizona, UCLA and Oregon State before his injury. He had offers from Idaho and Colorado State.

Del Norte senior Montrice Johns signed with New Mexico State. Johns, a 6-5, 245-pound tight end, had 10 catches for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Nighthawks cornerback Quenton Meeks will announce his college choice today at 2 p.m. He is picking between California, Vanderbilt and Stanford. Continue to check back for updates.
