Annual ‘Finish Chelsea’s Run’ is March 7

Share

On-line registrations are being accepted for the fifth annual Finish Chelsea’s Run/Walk and Family Festival, to be held on Saturday, March 7 in Balboa Park.

The popular annual event is the major fundraiser for the Chelsea’s Light Foundation Sunflower Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Poway High School student and runner Chelsea King, who was murdered in February, 2010 during a training run in Rancho Bernardo. The event was moved to Balboa Park after an estimated 3,500 participants finished the first run, held on the same course where she was slain.

Events on March 7 will begin with day-of-event registration at 6:30 a.m., following by the 7:30 a.m. start of the 5K run/walk. A family festival will be held from 8 to 11 a.m.

The start line will be at 6th and Palm avenues.

On-line registration can be completed at www.chelseaslight.org. Fees are $35 for adults, $30 for active-duty military and $20 for youth between 6 and 17 years. There is also a “virtual participant” option for $40.

A pre-registration-packet pickup event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3 at Road Runner Sports San Diego, 5553 Copley Drive, San Diego.

Event organizers say the 2014 run raised about $85,000, which was distributed in the form of scholarships to 10 students.
