Looking for a change in the new year? Dermacare can help you with all your beauty needs.

Dermacare Laser and Skin Care Clinic, at 11770 Bernardo Plaza Court, Suite 201 in Rancho Bernardo, offers everything from facial esthetics and skin care, to Botox and body shaping. It also has a second location in Carlsbad.

The clinics were started in 2006 by Dr. Jeff Birchall, a family practitioner who made the switch over to cosmetic medicine. “I discovered that I really enjoy (cosmetic medicine),” said Birchall. “It’s a great change. It’s creative, artistic and always changing and evolving.”

Birchall earned his Bachelor of Science degree and M.D. from the University of Calgary, Canada, and completed his residency at Foothill Hospital in the university’s family medicine program. He was a staff physician with Palomar Pomerado Hospital, the VA Hospital in San Diego, and physician/medical director of the Penn Elm Medical Group in Escondido, California, and has been practicing medicine since 1991.

Birchall said that Dermacare specializes in four fields: facial esthetics and skin care; cosmetic laser services; injectables like Botox and Juvederm; and liposuction and body shaping services, as well as weight loss counseling.

The process begins with a complimentary consultation, where Birchall and his staff will meet with potential patients to learn their goals and concerns, answer questions and come up with a list of the services the patient wishes to have done.

“We need to match the patient’s needs, their tolerance level and emotional readiness, their budget and their time frame,” said Birchall. “After that, we can plan and move forward.”

Some of the most popular services Dermacare offers are Botox, Juvederm and laser hair removal, said Birchall.

Birchall said the field of cosmetic medicine is constantly evolving, and he’s been able to add a number of new services to his clinic over the years, including CoolSculpt, which uses controlled cooling to freeze fat cells. “Part of the joy (of working in cosmetic medicine) is that the technology is improving constantly,” said Birchall.

Birchall said that the clinic takes a holistic approach to patients, considering the whole person and finding exactly the right service for them.

The experienced staff also works to get to know their patients personally, he said. “We’re large enough that we can have a wide range of services, but small enough that it stays personal,” said Birchall. “It’s not one and done. It’s about developing a relationship.”

Potential clients can fill out a form on Dermacare’s website to indicate their interest in a consultation.
