The unbeaten streak in the Palomar League continued for the Poway High boys soccer team Wednesday.

The two-time defending league champions upped the streak to 12 with a 2-0 victory over host Mt. Carmel in the Palomar League opener for both schools.

It was 11th-year coach Eugene Morris’ 187th career victory and it was the Titans’ second straight shutout.

Both goals were scored in the first half. Kellen Gallagher got the first one and then the second came on an own goal. The Titans continue league play Friday at 3 p.m. at Canyon Crest Academy.

Broncos 4, Canyon Crest Academy 1

Four different players found the back of the net and Rancho Bernardo picked up its second straight victory.

After going 2-6-2 in Palomar League play last season, the Broncos (9-2-2, 1-0-0) look like a team that can challenge for the championship.

Michael Moroz, Evan Roehrig, Jacob Lindberg and Noak Tekle each posted goals in the win over the Ravens. Roehrig, Cengis Sayim and Lindberg registered assists.

Sam Fenlason made five saves in the net for Rancho Bernardo, who will continue league play Friday against Westview.

Avocado East League

San Marcos proved to be too much for Del Norte in the league opener, as the Knights beat the Nighthawks in a rout, 5-1.

It was the second straight loss for the Nighthawks, who have not scored more than a goal in a game since a 3-2 win over Classical Academy on Jan. 7. The Nighthawks will continue league play Friday against Mission Hills.
