Prep Boys Soccer: Poway High falls to CCA

Share

The Poway High boys soccer team saw its 12-game unbeaten streak in the Palomar League come to an end Friday at Canyon Crest Academy.

The Titans gave up two goals while playing with a man down in the final 32 minutes and fell 3-1 to the Ravens. It was the first time in school history that Canyon Crest has beaten Poway.

The Titans went down 1-0 early, but Jamie Logan’s header in the 34th minute made it 1-1 at halftime. But the game took a drastic turn in the 48th minute, when Titans goalkeeper Chad Rohrbach was given a red card for kneeing an opponent.

“I didn’t see it and I didn’t get an explanation,” Poway coach Eugene Morris said. “But that was a big turning point in the game.”

It only took four minutes for the Ravens to capitalize on the Titans playing a man down. CCA’s Chris DePetro scored his second goal of the game after a loose ball found his foot at the top of the key.

The Titans had several opportunities to get the equalizer, but Canyon Crest Academy was able to keep them out of the net. The Ravens then put the game away with a goal in stoppage time.

It was the first win of 2015 for Canyon Crest Academy. The loss drops the Titans out of first place in the Palomar League, but with Torrey Pines and Rancho Bernardo up next week they will have a chance to climb back up in the standings.
