Prep Girls Basketball Roundup: Del Norte High snags first league win

Share

It took three tries, but the Del Norte High girls basketball team picked up its first Avocado East League win Wednesday night.

Senior Mallie Green was a big reason why, as the 5-foot, 7-inch post grabbed 19 rebounds and finished with a 12 points in the Nighthawks’ 42-34 victory over Escondido.

Green did more than just rebound and score Wednesday night, she also had four blocks, two assists and two steals. Jessica Camerino chipped in with 12 points, as Del Norte (10-10, 1-2) snapped its three-game skid.

Palomar League

Poway had four players reach double figures, but still came up short in a 65-60 loss to Torrey Pines Wednesday night in a Palomar League game.

Erin Brunansky and Riley Johnson delivered 17 points apiece, while Sierra Claudio chipped in with 15 and Shanel Jamison added 11 for the Titans (15-6, 1-2).

The 65 points Poway allowed is a season high. The Titans have lost three of their last four, but face Rancho Bernardo Friday. Poway has not lost to the Broncos since 2011 and has won 19 of the last 20 meetings with their rival.
