Valley Elementary hosting academic fair Saturday

Share

The public is invited to come out to Valley Elementary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for fun, education and information on community services and programs.

The academic fair is free to attend and open to the public. It will provide resources on community services and programs in Poway, how to improve your child’s academic life, teach a little about robotics and more.

The event will be held in the parking lot in front of the school, and will feature informational booths from several community programs and services, including Poway’s Parks and Recreation services; the library; Housing Works; the Poway Boys and Girls Club; and Operation Samahan, an organization that provides health services to low income and uninsured individuals.

The goal of the event is to help both Valley parents and the community get information on these local services. “We live in a great community,” said Laura González-García, the parent liaison bilingual at Valley Elementary. “Poway is great, and Valley Elementary is great as well. We’re right in the center of Poway. We have a symbiotic relationship with the Boys and Girls Club, and a great relationship with Parks and Recreation.”

In addition to information, robotics teams from Poway High School and Meadowbrook Middle School will be at the event. They will be talking about science, technology and robotics with kids.

There will also be fun for the kids at the event as well, with face painting and giant bubbles, as well as a visit from the animal conservancy group Project Wildlife.

The event is being sponsored by Smart and Final, who will be providing free healthy snacks for attendees.
