CRAFT MARKET — The Poway Arts & Crafts Guild will hold its Boardwalk Craft Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 in Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Admission is free. Offerings are connected to traditional arts and crafts done at the turn of the 20th century and feature a variety of mediums, such as wood, metal, glass, clay, fabric, fibers, painting, drawing, soap making and photography. BORDER SECURITY — Peter Nunez, former United States Attorney and assistant for Secretary of the Treasury for Enforcement, will talk about border security during a 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 luncheon meeting. The event is a combined one for the Gen. J.P. Holland Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars and San Diego World Affairs Council. TUESDAY, AUG. 4

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT — San Diego Police Department’s Northeastern Division will host a free National Night Out event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Northeastern’s headquarters, 13396 Salmon River Road in Rancho Penasquitos. There will be kids’ activities, child fingerprinting/photos, entertainment, snacks and safety information. Also present will be SDPD’s SWAT and K9 units. POWAY NATIONAL NIGHT OUT — The Poway Sheriff’s station is hosting a free National Night Out event from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at the station, 13100 Bowron Road in Poway. There will be activities and games for kids, child fingerprinting, safety information and giveaways and hot dogs provided by Target. Also present will be members of the volunteer patrol; mounted patrol with horses; search and rescue and two vintage police cars. PLAQUE UNVEILING — The Pathway of Pride will hold its annual plaque unveiling ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 in Rancho Bernardo’s Webb Park. The plaques represent donations of $1,000 to the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation. There will be a free reception afterwards. ROBERTS AT COGG — San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts will talk about San Diego’s homeless during the 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 Conservative Order for Good Government luncheon. He will talk about the nearly 9,000 homeless people in San Diego County this year and how various government and private agencies are working to curb the problem. HELP WITH PROJECT — Tabitha Ministries is running out of balls of plarn (plastic yarn), used to make sleeping mats for the homeless. Making plarn balls is easy, just requires scissors and plastic grocery bags. All ages can join this monthly community service project.
