Head-on crash injures three in Poway

A head-on crash on Highway 67 in Poway Friday night sent three people to local hospitals, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A 16-year- old male San Diego resident with a provisional driver’s license was driving a 2013 Kia Optima southbound on the highway about 10:35 p.m. Friday when he reportedly lost control and crossed into the northbound lane west of Cloudy Moon Drive. The Kia struck a 2015 Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old male driver head-on, according to a sheriff’s report.

The teen driver was taken to Palomar Hospital with possible rib and facial injuries. A 16-year-old passenger was transported by helicopter to Palomar with leg and torso injuries. The 21-year-old driver was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with facial and torso injuries.

The crash does not appear to be alcohol or drug related, according to the report.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call Deputy Marshall Abbott at 858-513-2820.

A second accident on Highway 67, at Chaparral Way at 6 p.m. Saturday, sent one person the hospital, the department said.

A driver suffered a broken left when his motorcycle rear-ended a car that had stopped to turn onto Chaparral Way, according to a department spokesman. The injured man was taken to Palomar Hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the spokesman said.
