Prep Baseball: Jones powers Broncos past San Marcos

Share

Lenard Jones still has plenty of his high school career ahead of him, but the Rancho Bernardo High sophomore put together a memorable afternoon on Monday.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Jones belted two home runs and drove in three to help lead the Broncos to a 6-2 victory over San Marcos in a North County Tournament game.

It could be the spark Jones was looking for as he entered the game with just two hits in 19 at bats. The sophomore is just one of several young players getting playing time for Rancho Bernardo.

The win moves the Broncos to 5-1 and was Sam Blalock’s 870th of his illustrious coaching career. Rancho Bernardo will be back in action Wednesday against El Camino.
