Prep Girls Lacrosse: Jervis, Titans rout Del Norte

Taylor Jervis put on a draw-control clinic Friday night at Del Norte High School.

The junior midfielder won possession for Poway on 16 of her 18 draws and the Titans continuously peppered the Nighthawks’ net in a 15-4 Palomar League victory.

“Coach (Sarah) Spillett always says the team that wins draw control is the team that is going to win the game,” said Jervis, who transferred from Rancho Bernardo to Poway this year.

The Titans (7-10, 6-1) now have a chance to win a share of the Palomar League crown in the regular-season finale against undefeated Westview (10-6, 7-0). The two play Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Westview High School. The Wolverines won the first meeting 9-7.

“I think we are ready,” said Jervis, who is committed to San Diego State. “The last time we played Westview it was a really close game and after this game tonight I think we are ready.”

Jervis was one of four Titans to score three goals against the Nighthawks. Erin Dunn, Isabelle Flud and Megan Miller also found the back of the net three times, as Poway dominated time of possession.

Del Norte took a 2-1 lead with 17-minutes, 22-seconds to go in the first half after Makenna Grewe scored for the second time. But the Titans would rattle off 12 straight scores over the next 23 minutes to take a commanding 13-2 lead.

“As a team, I think we played our best game tonight,” Jervis said.

Despite the score, Del Norte goalkeeper Sammy Burke played an excellent game. She had nine saves while having to be on her toes the entire night. The Nighthawks (7-9, 3-4) close the season with Valley Center and Mt. Carmel before the start of the playoffs.

The Nighthawks and Titans are on pace to earn a top-10 seed in Division I.
