Prep Baseball: Playoff brackets released; Broncos No. 2 in Open, Poway No. 6 in D-I

The Rancho Bernardo High baseball team was tabbed the No. 2 seed in the San Diego Section Open Division playoffs and will start its quest to the crown against the squad that ended it’s Palomar League Championship streak at four years.

The Broncos will host No. 7 Torrey Pines on Wednesday at 3:30 PM in a first-round game in the eight-team, double-elimination bracket.

Spectators will likely be treated to another fantastic pitching matchup between two USC-bound hurlers in the Broncos’ Drew Finley and the Falcons’ C.J. Stubbs. The last time the two pitchers squared off the Falcons beat the Broncos 2-0.

The top seed in the Open Division went to La Costa Canyon, the No. 3 seed is Cathedral Catholic, No. 4 is Granite Hills, No. 5 is Vista, No. 6 is El Camino and No. 8 is St. Augustine.

In Division I, Poway earned the No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 Grossmont in a play-in game Tuesday at 3:30 PM. The winner will play at No. 3 Rancho Buena Vista Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The top seed went to Eastlake. It was followed by No. 2 La Jolla Country Day and No. 4 Madison.

In Division III, Del Norte is the No. 3 seed and will host the winner of Tuesday’s play-in game between No. 5 Oceanside and No. 12 Southwest on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

In Division V, Maranatha Christian is the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4 Hoover for a first-round game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
