Prep Softball: Broncos fight off elimination in Division I playoffs
Senior Kendall Brundrett turned in another solid performance in the circle and the Rancho Bernardo High softball team scored four runs in the seventh en route to a 6-1 victory over third-seeded Eastlake in a San Diego Section Division I elimination game.
Brundrett gave up a solo home run and that was it as the fifth-seeded Broncos advance to Thursday’s losers bracket semifinal at 3 p.m. at the Poway Sportsplex. Rancho Bernardo will face the winner of Tuesday’s No. 1 Carlsbad vs. No. 6 West Hill’s game.
The winner of that game Thursday advances to the losers bracket final against the loser of the No. 4 San Marcos vs. No. 2 Scripps Ranch game in the winners bracket final. That game will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Poway Sportsplex.
Melissa Neyhouse smacked a home run for the Broncos in the first inning, but the Titans responded with a home run of their own in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Rancho Bernardo took a 2-1 lead in the fifth and then Chloe Hull busted the game open with a two-run triple, which highlighted a four-run sixth for the Broncos. It was the second straight game Rancho Bernardo has avoided elimination.
