The Poway High baseball team blew a four-run lead in the fifth, but rallied for an 11-7 extra-inning win over third-seeded Rancho Buena Vista Saturday to stay alive in the San Diego Section Division I playoffs.

After leading the elimination game 5-1 through the top of the fifth, the sixth-seeded Titans fell behind 6-5 before Blake Wagenseller stole home with two outs in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.

That set the stage for Poway’s five-run eruption in the top of the eighth, highlighted by Jeff Pellegrino’s two-run double. Brett Singer and Kevin Bristow both had sacrifice fly’s and Filip Banjac had an RBI single in the frame, as the Titans took a commanding 11-6 lead.

Poway advances to Tuesday’s fourth-round game at No. 2 La Jolla Country Day at 3:30 p.m. The Titans need to beat the Torreys Tuesday and Thursday in order to advance to the Division I championship game Friday at 7 p.m. at USD’s Fowler Park. A loss and Poway is eliminated. The last time Poway has been to a section championship game was 2009, when it beat Rancho Buena Vista for the title.

The Titans have won two straight elimination games since losing to Rancho Buena Vista in the first round. Poway has won three elimination games all together, including the play-in game win over Grossmont.
