Prep Football: Eagles blank Tri-City Christian in league opener

Trevor Sheng scooped up a fumble and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game, setting the tone for a 40-0 Maranatha Christian victory over Tri-City Christian Friday in the Pacific League opener for both schools.

The Eagles (5-1, 1-0) raced out to a big lead and the game finished with a running clock. Sheng added two more touchdowns on the ground, as he finished with 89 yards on seven carries.

Isaac Schwan had four catches for a 100 yards and a touchdown, while James Palmer’s lone catch of the game was good for a 25-yard score. Quarterback Christian Cortes was 12-for-15 for 220 yards and the two touchdowns.

Schwan added 11 tackles on defense and the Eagles recovered three fumbles and picked off two passes. It was their second shutout of the year.
