Poway High graduate and El Paso Chihuahuas outfielder Alex Dickerson was named the Pacific League Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.

Dickerson, who recorded his first Major League hit with the San Diego Padres on Aug. 7 during a brief stint with the club, was voted the league’s top rookie by managers and media representatives.

Dickerson, 25, is hitting .309 with 12 home runs and 71 RBIs in his first Triple-A season. He was recently named to the All-Pacific League Team.

Dickerson is in his fifth year in the minors. He is batting .301 and has a .505 slugging percentage in that span. He was called up to the Padres on Aug. 6 in Milwaukee when Will Venable was out on paternity leave. Dickerson went 1-for-2 with a single in two games before being sent back down.
