Rancho Bernardo Kiwanians cooking pancakes on Saturday

Share

There is no need to cook on Saturday morning. Just head over to Rancho Bernardo Kiwanis Club’s 47th annual pancake breakfast.

The fundraising event will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 in the Rancho Bernardo High School outdoor quad, 13010 Paseo Lucido. Boy Scouts will direct people toward parking, which will be in the school’s main lot.

Tickets, sold at the event and in advance through grocery store and door-to-door sales, are $7, with children ages 4 to 8 admitted for $3 and those 3 and under free. Breakfast Co-chairwoman Julie Sleeper said the Kiwanians anticipate around 800 attendees, though as in years past, many more tickets will be sold.

Each ticket includes an entry into a drawing for a 40-inch flat screen television. The winner need not be present. To purchase a ticket in advance, call Sleeper at 858-945-1979.

Sleeper said the Kiwanians are trying to raise at least $20,000 through ticket sales, a silent auction, event sponsorships and table sponsors. The later will be accepted up to Saturday. Table sponsorships are $100 for a two-sided table sign or $50 for a one-sided sign plus two breakfast tickets. For details, contact Sleeper.

The silent auction will feature a variety of items, including certificates for rounds of golf, restaurant gift cards, Padres tickets and gift baskets with themes like wine lovers and chocolate lovers. The silent auction will close at the end of the breakfast and if winners have already left, they can pick up their auction item that weekend, she said.

Over the last five years, the breakfast has raised between $17,000 and $22,000 annually, Sleeper said. Most of the money has gone toward the club’s scholarship program for high school seniors. This past year it distributed $14,000.

Sleeper said the breakfast has remained popular for 47 years because it is a community event, “sort of a kickoff for school, Labor Day and fall.”
