Rancho Bernardo’s honorary mayor candidates, Tina Cota and Kevin Martin, have their campaigns in full swing, with each hosting a fundraiser event next week.

Cota is having comedian Craig Shoemaker, aka “The Lovemaster,” perform at a comedy night on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The 7:30 p.m. show open to ages 16 and older will be at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo, 12280 Greens East Road. Tickets, which include two drinks, are $75 for reserved seating and $45 for general admission. Purchase by emailing tinacota4RBmayor@gmail.com or calling 858-822-9459.

Comedy night will include a silent auction for items such as golf for four at La Costa Country Club. One golf package includes playing with former Red Sox player Fred Lynn and another with NASCAR driver Boris Said. Cota said other auction items include Botox, a personal training and nutritional counseling session, eyelash extensions, restaurant and jewelry store gift certificates, and basketball autographed by retired NBA player and commentator Bill Walton.

Her other fundraiser is an opportunity drawing for a week-long vacation in a three-bedroom townhome on the Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork, Montana. It is located near ski resorts. The prize includes $600 towards airfare. Tickets are $50 each and the winner — who does not need to be present — will be announced on Oct. 20 during Savour RB. Only 100 tickets will be sold.

Martin has announced two events and said a third is being planned. His first is a tribute party to recognize the 14th anniversary of 9/11 and honor those who have defended the United States since then. The 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 event will be at a home in The Trails. The $25 per person admission includes beverages, food from Athens Market Cafe, a silent auction and music. Tickets must be purchased in advance at GearUpSD.com.

His second is an ice cream social from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Café Merlot in Bernardo Winery, 13330 Paseo del Verano Norte. Tickets are $25, with senior tickets (ages 60-plus) sold for $15 and kids tickets (under 12 years) for $10. Purchase at GearUpSD.com.

In addition to a sundae bar, the menu will include macaroni and cheese, sliders, cookies, iced tea and lemonade. Alcohol will be available for purchase and there will be a silent auction featuring items from local businesses.

Martin said those who donate $100 per person or $200 per couple will have access to all events, raffle tickets and be entered into a drawing for a five-day stay at the Grand Marbrisas in Carlsbad, which includes golf and other items.

Both candidates are also selling drawing tickets for three prizes offered by the Rancho Bernardo Business Association. Winners will be announced at RBBA’s Nov. 17 reception and need not be present. Tickets are $5 or six for $25. The deadline to purchase is Oct. 20.

The first place prize is a two-night stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, breakfast for two and a round of golf. The second place prize is four $75 gift certificates, one each to Athens Market Cafe, Bernard’O Restaurant, Café Merlot and Carvers Steaks & Chops. The third place prize is two $75 gift certificates, one each to The Barrel Room and Urge American Gastropub.

The 2015 Rancho Bernardo Honorary Mayor will be announced on Nov. 17. Contest proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego, Miss Rancho Bernardo Scholarship Pageant, Ed Brown Center for Active Adults, Rancho Bernardo Business Association, Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation and Rancho Bernardo Historical Society.
