Next week Target will open in the new Del Sur Town Center and a new movie theater will welcome moviegoers in Carmel Mountain Ranch.

The Target store at 17170 Camino del Sur is just west of 4S Ranch and a few miles from Rancho Bernardo. According to spokesman Matthew Dentone, company plans to open its new Del Sur and South Park stores in San Diego simultaneously on Oct. 7.

He said the company held a hiring fair in mid-August, selecting 280 employees for its Del Sur store and 65 for its South Park one that will be a Target Express.

The Del Sur Target, part of the new Del Sur Town Center that is under construction, will be a general merchandise store also offering fresh food, a Starbucks, pharmacy, clinic and optical department. It will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Guests may shop that day from 5 to 9 p.m. The store will offer music, food, face painting and balloons. Target’s regular hours, which will go into effect on Wednesday, Oct. 7, will be 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

James Williams of Shea Properties, which is developing the shopping center, announced this week the first two businesses joining Target in the center. They will be CurBar, which offers services such as manicures and pedicures, and Dr. Lisa Davey’s family dentistry.

As for the Phil’s BBQ coming to the former Elephant Bar near Rancho Bernardo’s Westwood neighborhood, spokeswoman Melinda Leonard said the restaurant is slated to open by late February or early March of next year. The old restaurant was razed this summer and the new building “will feature a state of the art AV system, beautiful bar, outdoor patio and a large craft beer selection,” she said.

Petco has relocated its corporate support center to 10850 Via Frontera in the Rancho Bernardo Industrial Park. Throughout August it had its 650 employees in buildings throughout Miramar, Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch relocate to Rancho Bernardo so they will be in one 300,000-square-foot facility, said spokeswoman Lisa Stark.

“It is pet-friendly and everyone is encouraged to bring their pets to work,” Stark said. “(Pets) add to the environment and (employees) are more productive.”

She said the extensively remodeled building includes pet-friendly spaces and three dog parks so employee’s pets can exercise.

Petco will invite dignitaries to a private ribbon cutting ceremony during the day of Oct. 14. That evening a second event will be hosted by North San Diego Business Chamber when it holds its monthly Regional Connect mixer. It will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Admission is free for chamber members (maximum of five employees) if they RSVP by Oct. 13 and $10 per person at the door. Non-chamber members are $35.
