San Diego Granite is cutting edge

Looking to redo your kitchen or bathroom counters? San Diego Granite is a rock-solid choice.

San Diego Granite, at 13026 Stowe Drive, Suite C, in the Poway Business Park, has been serving San Diego’s granite needs for over 10 years.

Handling both residential and commercial spaces, San Diego Granite can provide a wide variety of granite, quartz and other stone custom counter tops, tables and more.

In the past couple of years, San Diego Granite has gone cutting edge by going entirely digital, said Bill Mullett, business co-owner with Doug Main.

“We’re completely digital. All the machinery, the measuring devices, everything,” said Mullett.

The transition from traditional methods to digital required many changes at San Diego Granite, including hiring an entire new department to handle the digital design, and learning to use the new machinery.

“Going digital was a huge thing for us,” said Mullett.

A PowerPoint slideshow at www.sdginc.net walks customers through the changes.

The company has also gone dust-free, one of a handful in the nation to do so.

That required changing their cutting tools to using a water jet and a diamond blade, which not only made the work environment better for the workers, but also ended up being faster as well, Mullett said.

While San Diego Granite continues to offer a wide selection of high-quality granite and quartz, it is also offering a new form of stone, Dekton, which Mullett said was good for exterior use, such as the outside of buildings, statues and barbecues, because it doesn’t heat up the way granite will in sunlight.

It can also be used at the bottom of pools, said Mullett, because it is such a hard material that the color won’t fade.

While San Diego Granite is kept busy with its commercial and residential work, there’s one project coming up that the company is looking forward to contributing to the Tony Gwynn memorial site that will be placed near the baseball diamond at Lake Poway. They will be working with Swinerton Builders on the project.

“It’s an exciting thing we’re doing for the community,” said Mullett. “There was an overwhelming response from artists. I think there were over 30 (that submitted designs).”

The company makes time to give back to the community through organizations like Best Buddies and fundraising for several youth sports teams throughout Rancho Bernardo and Poway.

San Diego Granite is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday by appointment only. For more information, call 858-486-2040 or visit www.sdginc.net.
