A concert to raise money for the proposed Tony Gwynn Memorial will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

Headlining “Music and Memorials: Honoring a Hometown Hero” will be Tim Flannery, with his band, The Lunatic Fringe. Flannery is a popular former San Diego Padres player and base coach. He is also a prolific and talented songwriter; an award-nominated musician who regularly packs venues across the globe.

Also performing will be Mayor Steve Vaus, a Grammy and Emmy award winner. A longtime Padres fan, Vaus first gained local attention in 1984 for writing and performing songs about the San Diego Padres for KFMB radio.

Another performer will be Eve Selis, winner of seven San Diego Music Awards in the Americana and adult alternative categories.

Additonal acts will be announce in coming days by the city’s Community Services Department.

The culmination of the evening will be the unveiling of the selected memorial design. Also planned is a live auction of unique Tony Gwynn memorabilia and the opportunity to purchase a niche on the memorial’s donor wall.

Local radio legend Mark Larson will serve as master of ceremonies.

Tickets, which range from $60 to $100 are on sale at: powaycenter.com/332/Music-Memories--Honoring-a -Hometown-Hero.
