Evacuation order lifted; SR-67 open to eastbound traffic

Update, 6:45 p.m.: SR-67 is open to east/northbound traffic. West/southbound traffic remains closed, CHP reports.

Update, 6:40 p.m.: Evacuation orders have been lifted, and Cal Fire reports Rock Fire is 5 percent contained. Due to better mapping, Cal Fire reports the fire is 20 acres.

Update, 5:50 p.m.: The Sheriff’s Department has called for the evacuation of homes in the vicinity of the Rock Fire. Ramona Library, 1275 Main St., is a temporary evacuation point. Large animals may be taken to Ramona Fairgrounds, 421 Aqua Lane.

Update, 5:40 p.m.: The Rock Fire has spread to 30 acres, Cal Fire reports.

Update, 4:40 p.m.: Caltrans reports that northbound SR-67 is closed at Poway Road and southbound traffic is closed at Archie Moore Road, Caltrans and CHP report. They recommend using alternate routes. They expect the closure to last through the evening commute.

Update, 4 p.m.: The fire is 12 acres with spotting and an immediate structure threat, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser reports. Multiple resources are fighting the fire from the air and from the ground.

Update, 3:30 p.m.: Officials have opened one lane for one-way traffic control.

Original report: Both lanes of state Route 67 between Poway Road and Mt. Woodson are closed until further notice as emergency crews deal with a vehicle fire on the highway just south of Rockhouse Road, according to the California Highway Patrol website.

The report of the car fire came at 2:34 p.m. The sig alert was issued at 3:16 p.m. The vehicle fire apparently spread to surrounding brush.
